For Howie Mandel, the toughest times can arise out of the most inopportune moments. He is a big tv star. When he is on, millions of people are watching. Producers, directors, writers, stage hands, camera operators – they all depend on him to come through. But, behind the glitter and glamour, Howie suffers OCD. Something as simple as a handshake can set him off. "The biggest fear I have is being triggered," he said. "And if I'm triggered and I get some sort of weird thought in my head that can't go, then my day is, is stopped. My life stops."
Below, English 009 student Jose Caballero shares an excerpt of his research paper on OCD. He takes his readers backstage, behind the curtain. His writing depicts real-life trauma.
Here we share a video that depicts a Day in the Life of Howie. When he speaks to his OCD, we don't know whether to laugh or cry.
