The Amanda Show: A Bipolar Life
Amanda Bynes used to be a great actress until she decided to retire. "I know 24 is a young age to retire but you heard it here first I've retired. I don't love acting anymore so I've stopped doing it... If I don't love something anymore I stop doing it... Being an actress isn't as fun as it may seem." This quote is important because it shows how Amanda Bynes started acting up by retiring from something she really loves. Bipolar Disorder makes someone do something he or she would not do in their stable mind. This disorder made Amanda to be mad at acting and not enjoy it as well as she used to. After retiring she started doing more things to call the public's attention. Her court visits started to become a routine with all her DUIs and bad behavior. Amanda was just not the same girl she used to be. People with bipolar disorder are not broken, they simply have a unique way of viewing the world. Even though bipolar disorder makes someone be unstable, they are still humans like the rest of us.
Bipolar disorder is a manic-depressive illness that causes unusual shifts in mood, energy levels, and the ability to carry day-to-day activities. There are four types of bipolar disorder: Bipolar I Disorder, Bipolar II Disorder, Cyclothymic Disorder, and other specified and unspecified bipolar and related diseases. The author of this article says that people with bipolar disorder experience periods of unusually intense emotions, changes in sleep patterns and activity levels. The different period is called mood episodes. Although there isn’t really a medication that will banish bipolar disorder, it will help calm it. Medications always follow up to visits to psychotherapy where individuals get help with their mental insanity.
In the article Celebrities + Mental Health: The Amanda Bynes Story, we see how Amanda Bynes started showing symptoms of her mental illness and how many people started to notice her insanity. It shows a picture of Amanda showing a different side her fans were not used to. Lawrence V. Tucker, the author of this article, says Amanda used to be a great actress loved by many. Lawrence is the owner of this website where the article was found. He uses this site as a blog to blog about different problems with psychiatry because he is a psychiatrist. His main purpose of this article is to inform us with Amanda’s on going story of how she started acting up. As Lawrence starts informing us about how it all started he states that hints of trouble began when Amanda was fired from a movie called Hall Pass. I can see how problems effectually started to begin with this altercation because Amanda loves acting. She would take every opportunity very seriously.
Amanda Bynes not surprised the public with her behavior but also her most caring fans. Only her fans would be interested in reading and informing themselves about Amanda’s condition. Since she was a very well known artist, the news of her mental illness was seen everywhere from the internet to the magazines. One thing out of many that were not okay with Amanda is that she used to post insane things on her Twitter account, things that were not usually okay. Her posts would say stuff like “I want Drake to murder my vagina,” or she would go in a stream of random thoughts like “I love the beautiful Kardashian sisters! I wish E picked better photos of me! I feel pregnant when I’m fat! I’m working out constantly!” She also attacked several artists via the web including Rihanna, Nick Cannon, and Perez Hilton. They even wrote on their accounts that they truly wished Amanda got the help she needed. The author of this article seems to suggest that Amanda’s illness led to erratic behavior which I strongly agree. This argument is supported by saying that after erratic behavior was done, everything was understood when Amanda was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
The writing appears to use all three pathos, logos, and ethos. The author of this article is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and a Diplomate of the American Board of Addiction Medicine practicing in the pharmacological management of psychiatric disorders. His information is very credible due to his experience. He also gives a good story of Amanda’s celebrity and personal life. Since the information of Amanda’s fans supporting her illness and struggling with a mental diseases connects with the reader’s emotions, that is pathos The writing of this article is very formal. The author uses very clear words easy to understand but he does not lose the formal touch. In the end, he wishes the best to Amanda hoping for a good recovery and to keep on going. He creates a proud tone saying that Amanda is capable of coming back to her actress life.
The article “Treatment” by Mayo Clinic talks about the different types of treatment there is for a bipolar disorder. Bipolar disorder is a lifelong condition, but very easy to treat and have under control. Treatments may include medications, continued treatment, day treatment programs, substance abuse treatment, or hospitalization. The main treatments there is for bipolar disorder are medication and psychological counseling. The different kinds of medications there is for bipolar disorder are mood stabilizers, antipsychotics, antidepressants, anti-anxiety medications, and antidepressant-antipsychotic. Not all medications work the same for all patients. It takes the time to figure out what medication is the best kid for the patient’s body. Since medications are a bit strong, there might be side effects to it. The side effects are not something out of this world, but if it does get severe it is always right for the patient to contact their doctor. Side effects also occur because the body is getting used to the new medication. Some examples of side effects are drowsiness, dizziness, headaches, and blurred vision.
I chose Bipolar disorder and Amanda Bynes because bipolar disorder is not always understood very well and Amanda Bynes used to be a really great actress. I thought this topic would be an interesting one because bipolar disorder is a very rare mental disease that makes your moods change in a matter of seconds. Not knowing how you are going to react to something or how your moods are going to change is very interesting. I find it very intriguing. Finding out that Amanda Bynes was diagnosed with bipolar disorder while doing my research was somewhat shocking because I never knew she suffered from that. Seeing her get DUIs, arrested, and posting insane stuff on her social media accounts was different of her. I just thought she was in her rebel phase. Annotating articles is nothing new to me. Another thing I learned writing this research paper is about the side effects from medication, and about the different types of bipolar disease, there is. For example, headaches, drowsiness, and blurred vision.
Bipolar disorder is one unique mental disability. Not knowing how your moodsare going to change is very intriguing. This disorder affects everyone differently. I chose to write about this because I am always surprised to know about the different things it can provoque in a person. Some can get very excited and some can get very depressed. Who would've thought a disorder could make a person shift moods in a quick matter. People with bipolar disorder need friends who will take the time to understand them because with good communication everyone would be better off. I know Amanda Bynes has had some rough patches, but this is not the end for her.
